It all started whilst Jake (a seasoned web developer) was at university. They were producing a yearbook for their hall of residence and Jake thought it'd be far better to use a website rather than wasting so much time with bits of paper and lots of scanning. Strangely, no-one else seemed to be doing web-based yearbooks at the time.

The system has evolved many times since then, to become a stable and trusted platform used by thousands of people.

Yearbooks can be viewable only by their members, each of which has a username and password to ensure miscreants can't gain access. Editors of the yearbooks have higher levels of access, and can block members who are misbehaving, and lock the book down when the print deadline approaches.
